Community Enhancement- Children’s Program Worker

The Rexdale Community Health Centre (RCHC) is a multi-service centre providing primary health care, health promotion, and community support services, including settlement and community development activities for families, children, youth, adults, and seniors from diverse backgrounds. RCHC is recruiting for a part-time Children’s Program Worker, a component of the Community Enhancement Program, to help achieve increased capacity, cohesiveness and leadership in children in the Burnhamthorpe/427 community in the form of an after-school program.

This position is dedicated to ensuring the successful planning, implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of the Children’s After School program and the related individual support provided to children and families participating in the after-school program. It liaises with school staff to develop partnerships and networks inside and outside the community that support participants in reaching their full potential. This position also includes planning, organizing, and facilitating community events.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Plan, implement and facilitate
  • Weekly After-School Programs for children aged 6-12
  • March Break Camp Programming
  • Summer Camp Programming
  • Community Events
  • Organize student and parent orientations and other special events
  • Initiate participant involvement in decision-making and programming planning for programs
  • Ensure that systems are in place to facilitate communication with students, parents/guardians, school staff, program staff and volunteers.
  • Identify trends and programming needs informed by documentation and evaluations (e.g., attendance records, registration, follow-ups) and feedback from stakeholders, partners, and participants.
  • Liaise with school administrators, staff, students, parents, and referral agencies to address children’s needs.
  • Create and maintain program resources, libraries and site inventories
  • Purchase program supplies and maintain records of supplies
  • Ensure that support and program components are delivered effectively and that the activities and relationships developed to support the continued development of the participants
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies, recruitment posters, training curriculum and tools
  • Create virtual and in-person program content
  • Coordinate workshops, activities, and games (field trips and special outings)
  • Secure, develop, set up and maintain virtual platforms and in-person space for programming needs.
  • Be involved in data collection, data analysis, resource and report writing and dissemination.
  • Work with the Program Manager to ensure that information needed for program monitoring, evaluation, and improvement is available and current, including collecting and entering accurate and timely data.
  • Provide reports and data to the Manager as required
  • Discuss feedback and resolve any problems/issues/concerns with the Manager and volunteers
  • Ensure orientation for students and volunteers working directly with this program
  • Attend and participate in Health Promotion, Youth and Family Services Team and RCHC staff meetings
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of RCHC-wide programs and activities as designated by the staff team
  • Represent  the project on external committees where appropriate
  • Promote the program, its mandate and its activities to the greater community
  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Support program staff, volunteers and participants
  • Develop and implement evaluation tools
  • Other duties as assigned

 In addition:

  • Contribute to the RCHC’s efforts to secure and maximize resources for current and new programs, services and activities.
  • Participate in the RCHC’s efforts to enhance its capacity through staff development.
  • Contribute to the RCHC’s activities to collect, analyze and report on data and relevant information and participate in research.
  • Respect and value the diversity of the community and individuals
  • Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality as per RCHC’s policies

 Qualifications and Assets:

  • Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education or Child and Youth Work or a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience working directly with school-aged children in a program or community-based setting
  • At least one year of experience planning and implementing programs for children of diverse cultures
  • Knowledge of approaches to providing support to children with special educational needs.
  • Experience with group dynamics and group facilitation appropriate to a range of ages and cultural backgrounds.
  • An understanding of issues affecting diverse populations, including general issues affecting low-income communities.
  • Knowledge of community and social service resources, particularly services for children and families.
  • Ability to work effectively with children and adults, including parents, volunteers, placement students, school teachers and other school staff, as well as other educational professionals
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Flexible hours, particularly evenings
  • Communication skills, both oral and written, for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work within the values, goals, mission and policies of the RCHC

NOTE:

  • A criminal record check will be required
  • Rexdale Community Health Centre has a mandatory vaccination policy in place

Salary Range: $ 19.34- $21.72 per hour

Hours per week:  14

Starting date:  ASAP

Status: Non-unionized

Contract End Date: August 31, 2025
